Asia Pac: a report by Steve Ford, Content Rights Manager for Media Monitors.

Press clipping is at a mature stage in Australia and New Zealand, and the major newspaper publishers are represented by a single body in both countries. The press clipping licences are Australia's Copyright Agency Limited (CAL) and New Zealand's Print Media Copyright Agency (PMCA). PCAs generally have very good relationships with publishers, who benefit from a multi-million dollar revenue stream without significant overheads. PCAs also have agreements with the major publishers in both countries for digital supply of news pages (PDFs), meaning clips are timely and of high quality.

Asia, in stark contrast, is an emerging market, lacking established models for covering copyright. PCAs have agreements with the SPH monopoly in Singapore, but there are few agreements in place in Malaysia or PR China. Hong Kong has a copyright licensing association, but not all publishers belong, and the conditions are restrictive.
